About Artist
Zeynep Boyan is a self-taught artist and designer based in Montréal and Istanbul working with clay as her primary material.
Her work is a culmination of her background, her surrounding habitat, her visual memory and her state of mind when creating. She largely gets inspired by organic forms found in nature reflecting femininity, masculinity, fluidity and everything in between. Seeking to create a natural feeling through her works, she often tends to keep her pieces naked, unglazed and organically textured by hand.
The process of her sculptural works start as sketches on paper to see various possibilities that the primary design has to offer. This practice is rooted from her interest and research in industrial design. These sketches turn into physical forms when they are channeled from her hands to clay. Every piece is created and textured by hand, using coiling techniques and high fired in stoneware clay.
